The 21st annual Rowena Reed Kostellow (RRK) Awards ceremony willl be held from 6 to 8pm on March 8, 2017 at Knoll showroom, 1330 Avenue of the Americas in Manhattan. The ceremony will be a fundraiser for student scholarships and a prize program. Register now; IDSA members receive a discount.
Tom Schutte, PhD, president of Pratt Institute, will receive the professional award. Schutte has championed design as the foundation of Pratt’s pedagogy. “Tom Schutte is one of Pratt’s most transformative leaders,” says Mike Pratt, vice chair of Pratt’s Board of Trustees and a descendant of founder Charles Pratt.
“President Schutte has been an advocate for our work ever since he came to Pratt in 1993,” declares Tucker Viemeister, FIDSA; Pratt alumnus; chair of the RRK Fund; and a speaker at IDSA’s Northeast District Design Conference 2017.
Schutte is stepping down in June 2017 and will become president emeritus at Pratt.
The student winner is Cindy Juette, Chrysler interior designer who presented at Consumer Electronics Show in 2017. earned her MA from Pratt in 2010. “I bring Pratt’s 3D education with me wherever I go,” she says. “I feel so lucky to have been a part of that curriculum.” Juette won a Fulbright Scholarship for a second MA program in automotive design from Coventry University. Juette also holds a degree from Art Center College of Design.
The RRK Fund was organized after Reed Kostellow, an IDSA Fellow, died in 1988, to help continue her teachings by supporting scholarships, publishing and programs. Reed Kostellow, along with her husband Alexander Kostellow and Donald Dohner, created Pratt Institute’s industrial design program based on abstract design applied to form, function and industry.
