Assistant Professor, East Stroudsburg University of Pennsylvania Xue Dong is an educator and designer. She obtained her MID at Auburn University. As the Assistant Professor at East Stroudsburg University, Xue specializes in product design. She was awarded several grants incorporating eye-tracking technology, augmented reality, and generative design. She has collaborated with several communities such as Lehigh Valley Health Networks (LVHN), Waste Not Technologies LLC, Vizvibe LLC, and Marathon Studio Inc. Before joining the ESU, she had wide-ranging professional experience. She holds two patents. As an engineer, she focused on the tooling and injection molding field at Cumberland Plastic Solutions, ranging from automotive, housewares, and medical devices.

In order to respond to the increasing complexity of business and solve complex problems, designers and entrepreneurs must possess essential strategic thinking skills. Achieving success as an entrepreneur necessitates elevated strategic thinking, a growth-focused business mindset, and a holistic view. This panel discussion will share a case study: A new product development and a strategic plan crafted by design and entrepreneurial students. This engaging panel will feature diverse participants including a design professor, a business professor, a creative director of Hasbro, students, and business owners. They will share their insights and challenges on how to work co-collaboratively to cultivate and equip students for the intricate and dynamic business environment.

Foster an Entrepreneurship Mindset Through Curricular & Extracurricular Activities

The Entrepreneur Mindset has become more critical in today’s design industry. Thus, it is vital to incorporate entrepreneurial skills in design education. Xue will share her experience of encouraging collaboration and entrepreneurship activities in the “new normal” era through business plan competition, mentorship programs, and extracurricular activities. Overall, the topic will push us to rethink how to infuse interdisciplinary study and new technology into industrial design education. In the end, she will invite one of her students and involve the audience with live interactions.
