Wonhee Arndt
Co-founder, Studio Gorm
Assistant Professor, University of Oregon
Wonhee Arndt is an assistant professor in the Department of Product Design at the University of Oregon and a partner at Studio Gorm. She grew up in Korea, where she studied and trained in fine art.
Arndt received a master’s degree in design from the Design Academy Eindhoven in the Netherlands, where she met her partner John Arndt and formed Studio Gorm in 2007. As designers of functional objects, they draw from their background in sculpture and craft to create works that balance function and aesthetics.
Their methods are rooted deeply in the act of physical making where an object’s true form evolves out of an experimental constructive approach to design.
Furnishing Utopia, Cultural Research and Design Collaboration
Furnishing Utopia is a design collective with the mission of bringing designers together from around the world to design—in response to utopian design cultures and philosophies through workshops, exhibitions and collaborative projects and partnerships.
Since spring 2016, John Arndt and Wonhee Arndt, co-founders of Studio Gorm, have exhibited works from 14 studios developed out of two, week-long workshops exploring the American Shaker culture and values. The work has been shown in New York City, Chicago and Stockholm. Learn how the project came about and how it has evolved.
Wonhee was a key supporter of IDSA’s Academic Pilot Program.
