Stuart Karten, IDSA, is president of the award-winning product design and innovation consultancy, Karten Design. For 30 years, he has partnered with medical and consumer product companies to build their business through design. Driven by strategic market understanding and deep user empathy, Karten and his team have helped partners such as CareFusion, Boston Scientific and Medtronic address some of the medical industry’s biggest challenges, such as enhancing usability, improving patient compliance and commercializing new technology. He is a graduate of the Rhode Island School of Design and worked for Gould Medical Products, Mattel and Baxter Medical Products before founding Karten Design.
For over 40 years, Stuart Karten has been a visionary in healthcare design, transforming complex and intimidating medical experiences into engaging and empowering ones. As the founder of Karten Design, he has led the charge in elevating the emotional and physical experiences of patients, caregivers, and clinicians through thoughtful, user-centered design. His work, which spans a wide array of healthcare technologies, has earned recognition from prestigious institutions like the Museum of Modern Art and the Cooper-Hewitt Museum, along with over 100 global design awards.
