Stephen G. Hauser, FIDSA

Hauser received his B.A. in industrial design in 1961 and his M.A. in 1963, both from UCLA. He began his career in industrial design at Ampex Computer Corporation in 1962 and moved on to become director of industrial design at Dashew Business Machines and then director of industrial design at Casady Engineering before forming Hauser, Inc. in 1966. Hauser, Inc was founded as an engineering-oriented industrial design consultancy, perhaps the first such independent firm of its type in the nation. Hauser, Inc., grew to include more than 65 industrial designers, mechanical engineers, user-centered research specialists, a marketing staff and color and graphic professionals supported by a model/prototype staff and complete in-house prototype fabrication shop in a 26,000 square foot facility. Hauser was among the top-ten design consultancies selected by BusinessWeek each year from the onset of BusinessWeek’s involvement with IDSA until Hauser Inc., was sold in 1999 to an East Coast holding company. Hauser retired in 2002.
