Sharon West

Mechanical Engineering Manager, Delve  Sharon West is a Mechanical Engineering Manager and technical lead at the product development firm Delve. She’s spent her 20+ year career mostly in the science and healthcare sectors working with cross-disciplinary teams to create laboratory robotics, biothreat detectors, pharmaceutical manufacturing equipment, and healthcare diagnostic devices from point-of-care to high-throughput central lab instruments. At Delve, Sharon has expanded her experience into consumer, commercial and industrial products. She’s motivated by making lives easier and reducing pain points for all stake-holders—not just end users, but also for manufacturers, assembly and service technicians, and future generations. She loves how, with her technical hat on, she has a chance to collaborate with amazing team-mates and when wearing her people-manager hat, she has the chance to help great engineers work to their full potential. She sometimes dreams of becoming a professional tree climber, cocktail taster, or pastry chef.

That Hat Can Fit Me, Too!

We are in a time of nearly perpetual change, with all the benefits and challenges that come along with that. This session is all about making transitions work: supporting yourself and others to reduce the friction inherent to role changes, team changes, and workforce changes. Attendees will hear about transition successes and stumbles, lessons learned, and bright hopes for the future from someone who has made hops between: small start-ups and large well-established companies, domestic and international teams, industry and consulting sectors, as well as technical work, project management and people management.

The Audience Will Learn:

  1. How to smoothly swap “hats” as you move to a new role.
  2. How to ease transitions for new folks joining your team.
  3. The importance of putting on a new hat to change your perspective.
