Shannon Pomeroy
Sport Researcher, adidas
Instructor, University of Oregon
Shannon Pomeroy began her career at the University of Michigan studying both sporting and clinical applications of biomechanics, leading to deeper orthopedic surgical implications throughout her graduate work at the University of Oregon.
Now at adidas, Pomeroy works on driving sport product and experience innovation rooted in human biomechanics as a member of the adidas Future Team. In this space, her primary endeavors focus on holistic additive manufacturing for footwear midsole development. She has also been acting as an instructor for the University of Oregon Sports Product Design program, adding depth to functional concepts and applications in athletic design.
Methods in Informing Functional, Objective-Driven Design
Additive manufacturing has been shifting the conversation from traditional manufacturing processes to more modern and real-time innovations. Shannon Pomeroy, a Sport Researcher striving to bridge the gap between function and design, will touch on this unique process for large scale consumerism and how the definition of design can evolve alongside this movement.
In particular, Pomeroy will discuss what design thinking means for a biomechanist and how function and big data enter the conversation. As additive manufacturing changes the origin of an idea and a direction, what does that mean for the voice behind a design built for performance?
