Rui Feng Dong is a pioneer in China’s automotive industry and founder of Zhuhai Idrf Transportation Design Co.,Ltd. Rui Feng Dong graduated from Changchun Normal College in 1985, majoring in industrial design. In the same year, he was assigned to the first automobile group Corporation—Changchun Technical Automotive Center, becoming one of the first designers to be involved in automotive design in China. In the early 80s, he moved to the West Germany Audi Automotive Design Center to learn car design, thereafter becoming a part of much of Audi’s design works. From 1994 to 1997, he joined Korea’s Daewoo Motor, where he worked in their Seoul Design Center, designing dozens of motor vehicles and participating in their development. Rui Feng Dong believes that the methodology of automotive design is the best representation of modern product design. Rui Feng Dong is a member of the Chinese Artists Association, a standing board member and life member of the China Industrial Design Association, a member of the Chinese Mechanical Engineering Society, the Executive Director of the Industrial Design department of the Guangdong Provincial Institute of Mechanical Engineering Branch, and also the standing Vice-president of the Shenzhen Design Federation. He is also a part-time professor in Mechanical Engineering Institute of Shandong University, a guest professor at the Hubei Institute of Fine Arts, a researcher and professor at the Academic Council of the Management Science Research Institute, and an assessment expert at the Shenzhen Municipal Government Procurement Center. Rui Feng Dong won first prize in the “86 China’s Transportation Design” Workshops, oraganized IVECO Design Center and the China Automotive Industry Corporation. He has also won the Critic’s Choice Award at 1998 international Hong Kong Designers Competition, for the Mini-Car CYCLER.
