Monica Weiler is a co-founder and design research director at Stratos Innovation Group, a US-based strategic design firm. Stratos strongly believes in a human-centered and systems approach to solving complex challenges. Through an interplay between design thinking, systems thinking and business strategy, the Stratos team is able to focus on helping organizations build products and services that will position their clients at a strategic advantage for the future.
Monica holds a Ph.D. in Integrated Systems Engineering, specializing in Human Factors, Design Thinking, and Organizational Change Management, from The Ohio State University.
Resilience – What a Concept!
For the last year or so, the idea of resilience has frequently emerged because of how COVID has impacted our lives, our teams, our businesses and our communities. While a very core systems-thinking principle, resilience as a concept has not been extensively discussed in the design community in a practical way. I will look at the application of the concept of resilience at three levels: personal, for team and for organizations. We will look at how the concept of resilience has evolved over time and show many examples of how it can be applied to design practices at these three levels.
