US industrial designer born in Pasadena, California. He served as a B-17 pilot during World War II and graduated with a degree in industrial design from the University of Southern California (USC) in 1949. He later received a master’s degree in sculpture from California State University.
After three years in industry he established his own office in Pasadena, Melvin Best Associates, in 1953, and began teaching at USC at the same time.
By 1957 his was the largest industrial design office west of Chicago.
He was an active member of IDSA and was awarded IDSA Fellowship in 1975.
