Chief Design Officer, Apple
Jonathan Ive was named Apple’s first chief design officer in May 2015. He is responsible for the look and feel of Apple hardware; user interface; packaging; major architectural projects such as Apple Campus 2 and Apple’s retail stores; and new ideas and future initiatives. Since 1996, Ive has led Apple’s design team, which has won many IDSA International Design Excellence Awards (IDEAs).
Ive holds thousands of patents and has been honored with many accolades, including IDSA’s Personal Recognition Award in 2013; Design Museum London's first Designer of the Year in 2003; the Design and Art Direction (D&AD) President's Award in 2005; and the Cooper-Hewitt: Smithsonian Design Museum's Product Design Award in 2007.
Ive earned a bachelor of arts degree from Newcastle Polytechnic (now Northumbria University) and holds honorary doctorates from the Royal College of Art, the Rhode Island School of Design and Northumbria University.
A native of London, he became Sir Jonathan Ive in 2013 when he was made a Knight Commander of the British Empire.
