Jim Kaufman, FIDSA

Principal, Kaufman & Company Jim is principal of Kaufman & Company, a small Colorado design consultancy. He is Professor Emeritus of the Ohio State University most recently finishing a semester as visiting professor at Massey University in Wellington, New Zealand. Jim served as the 2009-2010 IDSA Secretary/Treasurer as well as National Education Chair for IDSA and served on the Board of Directors from 2000-2002, was IDSA Special Awards Chairman 2007, an original trustee of IDSA Design Foundation, Mid-Ohio Chapter Chairman, Mid-East Regional Conference Chairman & Education Representative and was the University of Cincinnati’s Merit Award Winner. He is a National Schools of Art and Design (NASAD) evaluator and former Accreditation Commissioner. Jim practiced professionally at the NCR, Hobart/KitchenAid and the consulting firm of Roudebush & Associates. His current practice is about providing information to non-designers, higher education design programs and personnel recruitment and networking. Professor Kaufman’s teaching, research and administrative experiences span the following institutions: Massey University – Wellington NZ, The Ohio State University, University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, University of Cincinnati, and Miami University; Visiting Professor at: Central Saint Martins College – London, Lund University – Sweden; San Jose State University, Salford University – Manchester England. At OSU Kaufman served as Department Chair and Program Coordinator for the industrial design major and at UIUC served as its School’s Associate Director.
