Statement of Candidacy – Southern District Chapter Representative

Over my ID career, I have fallen into a pattern of joining IDSA, falling out of membership, only to later join again. Why? I must see the value. I must see the strength of a unified national voice for our profession. IDSA even facilitated my first job as a student participating in the merit award competition at RIT.  Clearly, IDSA has helped me. On a few “return trips” to IDSA, I have served as Florida Chapter Chair. There are two reasons I have decided to run for Southern District Chapter Representative.  The first is to try and solve this revolving door membership issue.  The second is an attempt to bridge the gap between Design Education and Professional Designers on the regional level.  Please consider voting for me, and then consider lending a hand as we move ahead.

Simulation in CAD for Designers

Are optimization, structural testing and event simulation strictly the domain of engineering?  No.

Now, designers can leverage these tests and optimization tools in Fusion360. Learn from Jeff Smith, IDSA, how these tools can create new design direction and a closer relationship with engineering. While verification and reports ensure designs will succeed in the world and make it to production.

Digital Sketching: Secrets Revealed!

Come learn about digital sketching and how analog skills support digital workflow.  Learn about best practices and how to transition between analog and digital.  But wait, there’s more. Jeff Smith, IDSA, of Autodesk also reveals how CAD application can, in fact, support and foster sketching skills.

Over my ID career, I have fallen into a pattern of joining IDSA and falling out of membership—only to later join again.  Why?  I must see the value.  I must see the strength of a unified national voice for our profession.  On a few “return trips” to IDSA, I have even served in a volunteer position—IDSA Florida Chapter chair.

IDSA facilitated my first job as a student participating in the Student Merit Award competition at RIT.  Clearly, IDSA has helped me.  There are two reasons I decided to run for Southern District Chapter Representative. First—to try and solve this revolving door membership issue.

Second—to attempt to bridge the gap between design education and professional designers on the regional level.  My current job at Autodesk Education highlights this and shows me a pathway to pull them closer.

He will lead participants through a series of drills followed by the “how” and “why.” Smith has a simple theory—practicing with the right skills, everyone can improve!
