Design, Diversity, and Data

Diversity is not a new problem in the design profession. Scholars, employers, organizations, and design professionals have been inquiring about it for more than 50 years, and yet representation in the profession hasn’t significantly increased since 1965. What’s behind this disparity? Where is the data to investigate this problem? And how can we use data to create and better support diversity-building initiatives? Join Jacinda Walker, founder and creative director of designExplorr, as she analyzes the latest data from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics and its impact on careers in the design profession.

In this session, you will learn:

  • What is behind the lack of diversity in design
  • Where to find the data to investigate the lack of diversity in design
  • How to use data to create and better support diversity-building initiatives
