Ian Coats MacColl

Ian Coats MacColl works as an industrial designer and product developer who stands at the intersection of design and commerce for consulting clients around the world. He was previously chief creative officer at Green Toys, vice president of design at Perfect Fitness, vice president of research and design at Wham-o and managing director of IDEO San Francisco, a product development consultancy.
Coats MacColl is a full professor of industrial design at the California College of the Arts in San Francisco and has taught in the program since 1992, with a specialization in sustainable design. He received undergraduate degrees in thermodynamics from Brown University in Providence, RI and in industrial design from Art Center College in Pasadena, CA. He lives and works in Mill Valley, CA with his wife and three children.
