George A. Beck, FIDSA

US industrial designer who graduated from the Chicago Academy of Fine Arts, worked under Ann Swainson at Montgomery Ward, then at Sears, Roebuck in the 1930s. He started at General Electric (GE) in 1934 working under Ray Patten from 1936 to 1942. In 1946 he was named manager of industrial design in GE’s new electronics department in Syracuse, New York, and in 1957 he established a new industrial design sub-section in GE’s Light Military Electronics department. In 1961, he received ALCOA’s annual industrial design award. He was an active member and Fellow of IDSA.
