Brian Paschke
Creative Director of Industrial Design | Fitbit
Brian Paschke is the Creative Director of Industrial Design at Fitbit, where he leads the design language of the portfolio, new technology integration, materials and processes as well as special projects. He has been honored with six Red Dot awards, including Best of the Best, in addition to numerous others such as iF Hannover, Good Design, IDEA Silver, and IDA Gold, and has been featured in design publications including Domus and Gestalten.
Brian has been invited to speak at events such as Walrus Talks Creativity for Walrus magazine and SF Design Week 2018 on The Softer Side of Hardware panel, as well as judging student design events at RCA London and OCADU Toronto. He is a frequent host and teacher of design workshops.
Brian received his bachelor’s degree from the Industrial Design program at the Emily Carr University of Art and Design. During this time, he worked on exhibitions and art publications as a Studio Assistant for artist and writer Douglas Coupland.
His passion is to create forward-thinking and inspiring ideas to improve the health and wellness of the world.
How a Small Team of Researchers, Designers, and Engineers at Fitbit Created an Emergency Ventilator to Help Save Lives.
Over the course of the pandemic, communities have come together to find solutions to the challenges driven by COVID-19. At Fitbit, we felt a strong sense of responsibility to support our community in the fight against COVID-19. So when our co-founders challenged the team to find ways to leverage our expertise in advanced sensor technology, robotics, signal processing, supply chain logistics, and hardware design to make a meaningful difference, a small team dove into a secret project to help save lives.
Brian Paschke, Creative Director of Industrial Design and Pete Richards, Director of Research, Electrical Engineering at Fitbit will walk through the design process of creating the Fitbit Flow, an emergency ventilator designed in San Francisco under shelter in place. The Fitbit Flow obtained FDA Emergency Use Authorization (EUA) for use during the COVID-19 pandemic on June 1, 2020. They will highlight the challenges and opportunities of working remotely to quickly bring this to market.
