Aviva Maya Shulem, IDSA

Aviva Maya Shulem, a native of Israel, has been involved in design from an early age. In 1998, she made her way to New York City, where she embarked on a successful career in the design industry. After completing her studies at Parsons School of Design in 2002, she joined Donghia, Inc., focusing on designing furniture, lighting, and home accessories. Later, she expanded her expertise at Swarovski LTD, managing product design and development while collaborating with influential figures in art, architecture,design, and technology. In 2014, Aviva established Aviva Maya Design, a design-consulting studio. Alongside her role as an adjunct faculty member, she partners with non-profits and design studios, providing her expertise in design, training, product design management, and brand strategy for home products and interior styling. Aviva’s design approach revolves around artisanal and handcrafted goods while exploring contemporary digital fabrication trends and innovations. Aviva enjoys working with students and is passionate about sharing her knowledge and enthusiasm. Her research interests span various areas, including design and technology, human-centered and universal design, biomaterials, social responsibility, and fair trade.
