Individual Membership Categories

Memberships are held on an annual basis and can be renewed on the start day anniversary of each following year. 

Student

For undergraduate and graduate students studying industrial design.

Eligibility: You must be currently enrolled at a college or university, pursuing an undergraduate or advanced degree in industrial design or related design discipline. A Student membership may be held for up to 5 years while enrolled in a college or university. See complete members-only student benefits.

$50 / year

Young Professional

For recent graduates entering the workforce and seeking an edge on the competition and opportunities to build meaningful connections.

Eligibility: You must have earned an undergraduate or advanced degree in industrial design or related design discipline within the past 1-5 years. See complete members-only Young Professional benefits.

$150 / year

Professional

For established designers looking to enhance their career through community engagement and professional development.

Eligibility: You must have earned an undergraduate or advanced degree in industrial design or related design discipline and/or have appropriate professional experience (as an educator or working professional, with primary responsibility in the design of products, instruments, equipment, packages, transportation, environments, etc.). $375 / year

Affiliate

For individuals who love design but may not hold a design degree or who may serve in a non-design role within their organization.

Eligibility: Any professional who is not currently a student of, nor holds a degree in, industrial design or a related design discipline. See complete members-only Affiliate benefits.

Group Membership Categories

Memberships are held on an annual basis and can be renewed on the start day anniversary of each following year. 

Professional Groups

For teams of professional designers to enroll together and receive a discounted membership rate. 

Effective January 1, 2022

  • Teams of 3 – 5 individuals, $299 each / year
  • Teams of 6 – 10 individuals, $275 each / year
  • Teams of 11 – 15 individuals, $249 each / year
  • Teams of 16 – 20 individuals, $225 each / year
  • Teams of 21 or more individuals, $199 each / year

Academic Groups

An all-inclusive membership package with unique benefits for industrial design programs, their educators, and students.

Effective November, 2023

  • 50 or fewer members, $1,999 / year
  • 51-100 members, $2,999 / year
  • 101-200 members, $4,999 / year
  • 201-350 members, $6,999 / year
  • 351+ members, $7,999 / year

What do your dues pay for?

The dues collected from membership help fund, in part, IDSA’s overall program offerings and keep the organization functioning. With a full-time staff and fixed annual expenses, IDSA, a non-profit 501c(6) organization, works within tight budgetary constraints to maximize the quality of service and membership experience our community deserves. Income we receive goes towards offsetting our operational expenses and/or is directly reinvested in IDSA’s programming, much of which is offered for free to members and the larger design community. Additionally, a portion of your dues goes directly to your local chapter, providing financial support to facilitate the creation of localized content in your area.
