About

The University of Cincinnati offers students a balance of educational excellence and real-world experience. UC is a public research university with an enrollment of almost 47,000 students and has been named “Among the top tier of the Best National Universities,” according to U.S. News & World Report. Today, more than 330,000 living alumni count themselves as Bearcats — united not just by their loyalty to our nationally known sports teams, but by their common love of the place, the people and the ideas that make up the University of Cincinnati. Every two years, BusinessWeek magazine ranks the international elite of design programs, the top 30 design schools on the planet. UC routinely makes that world-class list.

Programs

UC’s Industrial Design Program has been recognized as a highly rated program both nationally and internationally. The program is based on a solid foundation that includes design theory and research, design visualization and communication, user-centered approaches, and societal and environmental responsibility in a unique 5-year curriculum alternating education and professional practice experiences. Students learn to emphasize the humanistic qualities of products of mass production with special consideration for user experience, visual satisfaction, and sustainability which they may bring to the users and society. In a curriculum balanced between academic and studio requirements, students are able to develop critical thinking, creativity, visual communication skills, hands-on experience with technology, and the ability to conduct design research in interdisciplinary collaboration. It offers its students several gateways into the field with two formal pathways: Product Design and Mobility Systems Design.
