Expected the Unexpected in one of three offsite tours, even before IDSA’s Northeast District Design Conference 2017 officially kicks off! “Did you know that Providence has the oldest, indoor shopping mall in America? Expect to see the usual and unusual places on tours led by insiders,” says Rhode Island School of Design (RISD) Associate Professor of Industrial Design Claudia Rebola, PhD. Check out the map.

All the tours will begin at 10am on Friday, March 31. Meet just before 10am at the entrance to the RISD Auditorium and sign up with the tour guides. Each tour is expected to last about two hours:

RISD: Get an insider’s view of the conference’s host university, Rhode Isalnd Schoof of Design. See RISD Library, ID Senior Show, ID Department, Nature Lab and RISD Works.

College Hill: Go behind the scenes at Brown University’s Center for Entrepreneurship, Granoff Center, Virtual Reality Museum, Courtyard and Haffenreffer Museum of Anthropology, Humanity-Centered Robotics Lab and Greycork.

Downtown Providence: The conference spills over into charming Downtown Providence! Visit the AS220 Arts Collective, Beta Spring/Rev Up, Founders League, RISD Co Works, RISD Grad ID, Dean Hotel and The Design Office.

Space is limited; only about 15 to 20 people will be scheduled per tour. Post your photos and experiences using #IDSANEDDC on Twitter @IDSA, Instagram @IDSAdesign and Industrial Designers Society of America on Facebook.
