November 10, 2022 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm

IDSA Blurred Lines 3.0 | Industrial Design & Emerging Technology

From integrating AI tools like Midjourney into ID practice to designing immersive spaces and products in Gravity sketch, designers are taking advantage of new tools and software to augment their skillsets. Join us as we explore the tools of the designer at the cutting edge – how practicing industrial designers are integrating emerging technology into their everyday practice.

In this collaboration between IDSA Cleveland, Columbus, and Cincinnati you’ll hear from an exciting panel of designers and innovators from Kaleidoscope Innovation, the Ohio State University, Footwearology Lab, and more!

Kedar Benjamin is an industrial designer whose obsession with AI and computational design has led him to create new workflows, merging geometry processing and AI to explore ways to automate parts of the design process. One of his collaborations with AI is in the process of being readied for production using cutting-edge techniques.

Nicoline Van Enter is one of the founders of Footwearology and Footwearology Lab. She is a world-renowned technology forecaster and visionary thinker, with a background in engineering, journalism, marketing and design. Nicoline has worked with brands such as Adidas, Timberland, Puma, Ecco and various manufacturers and technology developers in the footwear industry. Her main focus and interest is in how AI will improve the design and manufacturing process, for all parties involved.

William Nickley is Assistant Professor in the Department of Design at The Ohio State University. He holds an MFA in Design and a BSD in Industrial Design from The Ohio State University, and brings over a decade of professional practice experience to the classroom. He researches social design practice as a member of the Ohio State DESIS Lab and teaches courses in the industrial design major. William’s research lies at the intersection of social design, design methods, and community-engaged design.

Nikko Van Stolk is a Lead Industrial Designer at Kaleidoscope Innovation, an Infosys Company, where he works creating collaborative spaces for robots and humans to thrive together. With a background in industrial design and a passion for human machine interaction, Nikko creates empathetic solutions driven by user needs that embrace cutting edge technology. He enjoys walking a mile in someone else’s shoes through the user centered design process and applying his creativity in a way that improves quality of life.
