The IDSA Chicago (CHI) Chapter serves the networking and professional development needs of industrial designers in Chicago, Illinois and surrounding areas. Some of the activities and events that the Chicago Chapter has produced include lectures, studio tours, and collaborations with other professional design organizations. IDSA’s first ever national meeting was held in 1965 in Chicago suburb, Oakbook, IL at the Drake Hotel. Since then, Chicago has been the location of IDSA’s International Design Conference and Education Symposium in 1983, 1986, 1999, 2013, and 2019 which brought together designers from around the world for design dialogue and discourse.

IDSA Chicago also supports design students in the area, including the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, Southern Illinois University, University of Illinois at Chicago, University of Illinois-Urbana Champaign, Purdue University, and the University of Notre Dame. We encourage a strong partnership between the student chapters and the professional chapter that includes portfolio reviews, career development, and social events.

The chapter officers below were elected to position by members of the Chicago Chapter and hold a two-year term.
