A 3M Design Internship is a unique opportunity to apply skills you’ve learned in design school to create solutions to design challenges on a global scale. If selected, you’ll work with experienced designers on priority projects that add value to 3M’s business and the world. You’ll also have the chance to collaborate and network with fellow designers and interns from top schools.

As a 3M Design intern, you’ll be part of a special team. 3M Design is a collaborative group focused on designing creative solutions that help 3M maintain its competitive advantage.

The types of projects interns work on include brand design, design research, product design, virtual reality simulations, software UX and UI design and many other critical projects for 3M. These cornerstone assignments can set the foundation for a meaningful career in design.


A cut above: 3M Design interns are outstanding among their peers

3M looks for students currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree or higher in industrial, graphic, brand, UX and VR fields who have completed their junior year (or higher) by the time the internship begins. Top applicants possess strong coursework experience in illustration, visual branding, typography, photography, color and pattern; and excel at ideation, visualization and sketching. Start planning today

The 3M Design Internship is a 10-12-week summer program open to college juniors and seniors, and above. Open positions are posted in December-January and virtual interviews are held in February. This is a paid internship and will likely be 100% virtual, similar to the 2020 program. Post-COVID, the program will likely go back to being in-person.
