Qihang Fan, IDSA, is a product designer at Arthrex focused on enhancing the surgical experience through emerging technologies. Beyond his contributions to medical device innovation, he has gained global recognition for his open-source digital product, “Four Typologies,” which has received over 30 international design awards, including the iF Design Award, GOOD DESIGN Award, and C2A Best of Best Distinction.
“Four Typologies” is an interactive-media website designed to make architectural, fashion, and immersive experiences more accessible to the public. Traditional 2D diagrams and renderings often fail to capture spatial richness, but this platform seamlessly integrates 3D exploration into a web-based experience, allowing users to engage with architectural concepts from macro to micro observation levels—without requiring specialized XR technology. The product is entirely open-source, enabling users to access and clone it on GitHub.
At Arthrex, Qihang works across R&D and commercialization, designing and delivering next-generation medical devices. With a master’s degree in architecture from SCI-Arc and ongoing studies in computer and information technology at the University of Pennsylvania, he brings a multidisciplinary perspective to product innovation.
