Member Spotlight: Ignacio Urbina Polo, IDSA

Who:
Ignacio Urbina Polo, IDSA is an industrial designer, educator and curator. He is a tenure professor of industrial design at the Pratt Institute and general editor of the website www.di-conexiones.com.

He also is a founding member of the Ibero-American Design Biennial, created in 2007 in Madrid, Spain.

What:
Polo curated the exhibition IDB_ve 2019 in Venezuela, with the partcipation of Venezuelan designers. IDB_ve 2019 includes selections from the general exhibition of the 2018 Biennial in Caracas, with the participation of Venezuelan designers from the last three editions and the Awards and Mentions of the Biennial.

When/Where:
The exhibition is on view in the spaces of La Hacienda La Trinidad Parque Cultural through Sept. 1, 2019.

Why: 
Says Polo, “Amid the political and economic crisis in Venezuela, this exhibition called IDB_ve 2019 proposes answers and hope in the reconstruction of the country with Design.” At the same time, he explores the diaspora phenomenon in the field of design—a massive emigration process that also impacts the US—with the participation of Venezuelan designers in many areas.
