Sonos’ new packaging system was created to minimize the use of plastic and focus on paper-based and renewable materials. The design team pushed paper pulp to its limit using simulation and traditional prototyping techniques to develop robust structures. This reduced the part count for the Sonos Ray and eliminated EPP foam to protect the heavier Sonos Sub Mini. Leveraging the Sonos visual design system and custom kraft paper, the designers introduced tactile moments through print treatments and debossing. The packaging illustrations celebrate the products’ distinctive forms.
