Committees & Councils
Many programs and initiatives of IDSA are lead through the actions and direction of passionate people working together.
Committees
Awards Committee
This committee is responsible for establishing strategic intent and consistency across IDSA’s awards programs. It also reviews nominations and presents recommended recipients to the Board of Directors for the IDSA Awards, which includes the Academy of Fellows.
Conferences Committee
This committee is responsible for establishing strategic intent and consistency across IDSA’s national events. Members of the committee are charged with establishing topic themes, identifying speakers, and curating the overall event attendee experience.
Districts Committee
This committee is responsible for working directly with IDSA’s professional chapters and other design communities within their district to foster their growth by mentoring chapter officers and creating connections among chapters.
Executive Committee
This committee serves as an advisory body to the Executive Director to help keep the organization running smoothly between Board meetings.
Membership Committee
This committee is responsible for developing strategies that support and expand IDSA’s membership. It also acts as the National Admissions Officer, approving IDSA’s new members on a monthly basis.
Nominations & Elections Committee
This committee is responsible for identifying and vetting candidates who wish to serve in elected roles on the Board of Directors, committees and councils.
Women in Design Committee
The Women in Design National Committee aims to create more equitable design opportunities for all gender identities. The committee unifies and amplifies the voices of female designers, shares knowledge and expertise, and builds lasting networks by supporting the founding of chapters across the US by women, non-binary people, and equity allies.
Councils
Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Council
This council has many important responsibilities within IDSA’s DEI efforts in transforming the industrial design industry so that it better reflects our diverse population and dismantling the structural racism and inequities that permeate design and our communities.
Education Council
The council serves in several capacities to support IDSA’s academic programming. Members judge and select SMA Winners, review Academic Education Papers, and support the planning and content generation for the annual Education Symposium.
Past Chairs & Presidents Council
This group, consisting of past Board of Directors Chairs / Presidents advise the current Board of Directors on matters where past precedent, rationale and decisions provide important considerations for current issues.
