We worked closely with Intel and Speculur to create ‘Batsense’, a smart sensor for budding cricketers that provides data and analytics on their batting performance to assist them in their training. The Batsense smart sensor analyses a player’s batting stroke and presents real-time analytics that can be used to improve gameplay. It fits snugly on top of a bat handle, creating a beautiful detail that completes the cricket bat form factor, without any interference. Wearing batting gloves limits dexterity, so a single large button user interface was created to enable fast and consistent interaction.

From design to functioning product and intuitive mobile app in a matter of months, Batsense debuted at the 2017 ICC Champions Trophy in London. TV viewers across the globe could see real-time stroke information of their favorite players, for the first time.

Grameen Intel had created an innovative digital test to examine soil samples and determine their nutrient content. They came to Joseph Design to transform this technology into a field-ready device that could be used by rural farmers across South Asia.

The DSTK device positively impacts the livelihoods of rural farmers and the communities they serve by addressing real-world soil testing pain-points such as portability, testing time, and ease of use. Rural entrepreneurs are now able to offer accurate recommendations to farmers they serve in minutes rather than weeks compared to traditional lab tests. As well as ergonomics and viewing angles, we carefully designed GPS placement, liquid, light, and weather seals. We efficiently packaged this state-of-the-art technology into an IP64 rated device. The result was a compact, purpose-driven, elegant design.

IV pumps are one of those medical devices that haven’t changed in a long time. Electromechanical peristaltic pumps that move fluid have been the standard in hospitals. Turnpoint Medical Devices had developed a new pneumatic fluid drive that didn’t require complex tube loading or multiple moving parts and rollers that depress tubes.

We created a familiar and non-threatening design for the Breeze IV pump, especially suited for high-stress environments like a hospital room or ER. The user interface is intentionally large to allow a nurse or doctor to easily view the remaining infusion time from a distance without disturbing a resting patient. The UI utilizes a few simple steps that are intuitive with single areas of focus to reduce cognitive load and human error. The flat top and bottom allow for multiple units to stack on top of each other for optimal storage when not in use, as well as integrate a flush IV hook and a pole clamp for maximum convenience in a hospital.

To create a simple and efficient way to conduct TMS therapy clinics, Neuronetics partnered with Joseph Design to design a cloud-based database management system.

According to the World Health Organisation, approximately 4 million women and children die annually due to indoor gas exposure. Most families in rural parts of countries like India and Bangladesh, use wood as fuel for their daily cooking. The smoke released, contains dangerous amounts of carbon monoxide, which ends up being one of the leading causes of miscarriage and death. Grameen Intel believed that a smart, wearable device could offer a timely intervention that could help save the lives of a large number of these pregnant women and children from carbon monoxide poisoning.
