Attendees of the IDSA Northeast District Design Conference (NEDDC) 2017 at the Rhode Island School of Design in Providence may want to check out the first Digital Museum of Digital Art (DiMoDA) project to be shown in a US museum, the RISD Museum.
The new, virtual reality (VR) exhibit by DiMoDA, entitled Morphe Presence, is open through May 14, 2017. DiMoDA was founded and is directed by artists William Robertson and Alfredo Salazar-Caro. Morhpe Presence is organized by invited curators Eileen Isagon Skyers and Helena Acosta. and features the work of Miyö Van Stenis, Theoklitos Triantafyllidis, Brenna Murphy and Rosa Menkman.
- “Miyö’s War Room” examines how contemporary video games, social networks and internet culture sexualize women and girls and pressure men and boys into aggressive roles.
- Murphy’s “Vectoral~Sentience_Stack” offers an optically challenging and meditative visual experience, in which the viewer seems to float in a vibrating optical illusion.
- Triantafyllidis’s humorous “Self Portrait (interior)” tours the internal workings of the human body.
- Menkman’s “DCT Syphoning The 64th Interval” is a vibrating black and white static topography that depicts an image as it is being rendered through encoding technology.
See Morphe Presence at RISD Museum’s Spalter New Media Gallery, with entrances at 20 North Main St. and 220 Benefit St. Hours are 10 am to 5 pm Tuesday through Sunday. Tickets are $12 for adults; college students, $5 with valid ID. Admission is free Sundays and on the third Thursday evening of the month, from 5 to 9pm.
