From MIT to MIAD, industrial design scholarships are having an impact on education. Ben Coble, S/IDSA, is the recipient of the $1,500 2016 Gianninoto Graduate Scholarship presented by the Indsutrial Designers Society of America (IDSA). The scholarship originally was established with a $25,000 contribution by the late Francesco Gianninoto, FIDSA, a US package designer who was a founder of the Package Design Council; president of Gianninoto Associates from 1932 to 1983; and an honorary professor in communication through design at Western Connecticut State University.
Coble is in his final year in the Integrated Design and Management’s master’s degree program at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), He earned his bachelor’s degree in ID from Virginia Tech “I’m extremely honored to be receiving this scholarship, and I’m grateful to IDSA for helping me move toward my degree in design,” Coble says. “It really means a lot to be recognized along with the other talented and passionate past winners of this award.” Read more about Coble.
Emily Siira, S/IDSA, is the winner of the $1,500 2016 Design Foundation Undergraduate Scholarship. “I feel exceptionally honored and excited to have been selected, as the award will significantly help to facilitate my final year of undergraduate studies,” adds Siira, an active member for several years of the IDSA Student Chapter at Milwaukee Institute of Art & Design (MIAD). She’s also participated in IDSA Wisconsin Chapter events. This is the second consecutive year a MIAD student has won the Design Foundation Undergraduate Scholarship. Read more about Siira.
