His career started in the retail industry at AMC Theatres where he developed a passion for human resources. He transitioned into association management with the Society of Chemical Manufacturers and Affiliates (SOCMA) managing Human Resources and Office Services. In 2013, Layne joined IDSA. Over the course of his 10-year tenure, there isn’t an area within the association he hasn’t touched in some capacity. As Chief Operating Officer, Layne’s day-to-day oversight includes Human Resources and Administration, Membership, Chapters and Sections, Technology, and Governance. In January 2023, Layne was appointed to serve as Interim Executive Director by the Board of Directors, while a search for IDSA’s next Executive Director is conducted. “I am humbled by this decision and excited to lead IDSA Staff and work with the Board during this transition period,” says Layne. A Long Island, NY native, Layne earned a bachelor’s degree in psychology from the State University of New York at Albany, and a master’s degree in management: leadership and organizational effectiveness from the University of South Florida. In 2020 he earned his Certified Association Executive (CAE) credential from the American Society of Association Executives (ASAE), the highest professional credential in the association industry and a distinction less than five percent of all association professionals have achieved.
