Chunshik Kim, IDSA

Professor, Savannah College of Art and Design As a broadly experienced hands-on designer and collaborator, Chunshik Kim focuses on feasible, viable, and desirable product solutions. With this vision and mission, his works enter and enjoy longevity in the marketplace. Chunshik derives great pleasure seeing consumers utilize and live with the products that his team designs. In addition to consumer satisfaction, over 20 products were patented in the United States; thereby, contributing to the intellectual property of the brands. Chunshik has led hundreds of design projects, reflecting design-languages, consumer-insights, and corporate brand messages. Complex design challenges frequently arise and he is always excited to find the happy solution by collaborating with extraordinary team members with different perspectives. As a principal designer at Instant Brands (Instant, Pyrex, Corelle, and Chicago Cutlery), Chunshik led the VBL 2.0 that served for a meaningful product solution while also delivering brand promises to consumers. This improved brand awareness and helped the design team develop a coherent design solution. As a creative director, Chunshik has connected with other groups, such as GBU, marketing, and the China team, to maximize product quality.  Product validation through the form study and prototype is a significant part of his team’s role as it directly engages with users. As a principal Industrial Designer at Radius, Silicon Valley, Chunshik oversaw POC, LVB for autonomous & IoT products by using rapid prototypes. He also helped multiple start-ups for the stakeholders to make a prompt business decision. At Thrive, they believe good design improves people’s lives through the delivery of experiences that are meaningful, delightful and enriching. We focused on creating products through valuing people. They also believe creativity is the most powerful force in business. As a senior industrial designer at Ziba, Chunshik worked on a wide range of products from digital media to lifestyle goods for the major corporations such as P&G, Georgia Pacific, Newell, Samsung, LG, Intel, Sony, Sharp, Miele, and Logitech. In Chunshik’s very first career at Samsung, he had an unparalleled opportunity to manage production methods and manufacturing constraints. His work entailed the refinement of details in mass production that promised the highest standard of design quality. After many years of field experience, Chunshik realized that creativity and team collaboration are the keys to success in industry. Having facilitated numerous co-creation and brainstorming sessions with young designers, he realized that his true passion is design education. Chunshik welcomes preparing design students for their professional careers. In addition, Chunshik would like to construct mutually beneficial bridges between industry and SCAD with students learning from their industry projects and industry garnering a return-on-investment for this collaboration.
