The Shenzhen Urban Theater is an interactive urban decision-making support system for the Planning and Natural Resources Bureau of Shenzhen, China. It combines tangible UI and GUI to create an intuitive user experience. The physical urban model and modules for layout design can be easily manipulated. Attributes such as density and the road network are fine-tuned with a touch screen for higher fidelity and flexibility. Participants can explore the design from a drone’s eye using a phone. Design changes are analyzed and simulated in real time with results visualized through 3D mapping and wall projections. They provide clear, informative, and hierarchical feedbacks to support design iterations.
