Pickett Slater Harrington

Founder and Managing Principal, Joltage Pickett Slater Harrington has spent his career igniting social change. He is the founder and managing principal at Joltage, a social change design firm that champions innovative solutions to social challenges. He is a faculty member in the Master of Social Design program at the Maryland Institute College of Art and has served as a senior consultant and adjunct professor with the Community Building Institute at Xavier University. Pickett has deep experience working within and connecting communities and institutions. He has served in various roles in national nonprofit organizations and community-based organizations. He Lives in Baltimore, MD, and is working to Help residents develop a community vision for the transformation of the city’s public markets and build their capacity to identify and work on systemic challenges that impact their neighborhoods.

Co-Design: Community Centered Research & Engagement

What if we looked beyond the numbers and prioritized the lived experiences of individuals and communities in our research? This interactive workshop will explore how community-centered research and engagement can lead to more impactful and sustainable solutions.

Using a case study of co-designing solutions for greater food access, this session will showcase how researchers worked alongside community members to gain a deeper understanding of their needs and perspectives. Through fun and engaging techniques, attendees will learn how to incorporate a community-centered approach into their projects.
