Shannon Fong

Head of UX, Medical Devices | Verily Shannon Fong is the Head of Platform UX, where she leads a team designing foundational features, reusable building blocks, data management tools and the Verily Design System that are used across Verily products to create consistent, intuitive and engaging experiences for their users. Prior to that, she was the Head of UX for Medical Devices at Verily. Her team worked on products that were at the intersection of hardware and software, like the award-winning Verily Retinal Camera and Verily Watch. She loves the challenge of making technology clear, calm and kind for users. Growing up in Hawaii, she had no idea that industrial design existed until she attended the University of Washington. More than 20 years later, she has experience working on medical devices, consumer electronics, housewares, soft goods, packaging and UIs. Her love for medical design started at Philips, working on cardiac-related products like AEDs and heart monitors. She then broadened her experience at Smart Design, becoming Associate Director of Industrial Design. Eventually she was lured back to her first love, medical design, working in the Life Sciences group at Google X, which spun out to become Verily. Her work has been patented over 37 times and recognized by Fast Company and IDEA, including an IDEA: Design of the Decade award.
