Purveyors of designerly superpowers in Kansas City converged upon the Dolphin Gallery August 26 to eat, drink, learn, laugh, and assist the authorities with a pressing community challenge.
Moxie Catering provided the epic nibbles while beers from Boulevard Brewery ensured that heroes were never parched.
Attendees revealed their heroic design superpowers, weaknesses, and mottoes. Local Hallmark illustration ninja Adan Chung gave a great demo on rapid storyboarding and how to craft a sweet and simple narrative. Next up, kicka** kickstarter Matt Marrocco of Garmin shared the story of his partnership with Adam Hubers to develop their new book I Draw Cars and their recent success with fundraising on Kickstarter.
Then everyone clustered into teams to address a challenge posed by local Roeland Park police: skateboarder compliance at the community skateboard park. Finger capes ensured that even sketching fingers felt heroic at the end of the night.
It was great to see a diverse group of professionals and students out for this action packed event!
