Session Title:
In Fusion: Design Must Evolve to Assimilate Global Shifts in Culture and the Family Unit
DORIS WELLS-PAPANEK
, MARIANNE GRISDALE & ANN-MARIE CONRADO

We will explore the impact that female buying power has on culture, family and consumer decision-making practices in this provocative panel discussion. Women are currently responsible for 65 percent of global spending and 80 percent of spending within the United States. This session offers timely information that all students and practicing industrial designers must know, understand and then integrate into delivering responsible design solutions. Discussions will focus on the intersection of US and global patterns within the housewares industry. Panelists will present their positions, discuss contextual points of view and seek active input by attendee-generated questions to then discover an overall theme in real time.
