This paper discusses a collaborative project of designers and scientists to tackle one of the most pervasive and daunting tasks of humanity: designing disaster-resilient communities. It aims to reflect on the ongoing multidisciplinary conversations on global issues, such as climate change that the industrial design community has begun to take a more important part in. This paper is a catalyst to invite broader conversations on this topic. The design community understands that as designers we need to learn to speak languages other than our “design language.” We need to communicate with professionals in other domains to learn their paradigms and languages.
