Design Strategies for Improving a Product's Lifetime | DANBY

Session Title:
Design Strategies for Improving a Product’s Lifetime
DAWN DANBY

Join Dawn Danby, senior sustainable design program manager at Autodesk and industrial designer, as she discusses the incredible opportunity industrial designers and engineers have to diminish the e-waste problem by designing and making more recyclable, longer lasting, non-toxic products. She will demonstrate ways to design to improve product lifetime and get the most use out of the materials and energy that products use throughout their lifecycle. She’ll talk through the basic design strategies to optimize a product’s life, such as design for durability, repair and upgrade, and show examples of products and student projects that applied these strategies in their designs. Leave with a better understanding of the role you can play in reversing the e-waste cycle through design.
