Marc Harrison

Marc was a long-time faculty member at Rhode island School of Design and a former Chair of its Industrial design Department. In addition, he maintained an active design consultancy, focusing on the needs of the physically challenged long before the term “Universal Design” was in use. He influenced hundreds of students to carry with them that element of social responsibility. His work has been in use for decades in the subway systems of Boston, New York City and Philadelphia. He was the designer of the Cuisinart food processor in 1979. In 1997, RISD honored his contributions to the school during the dedication of its new 50,000 square-foot Industrial design building, and The RISD Alumni Association named him 1997 Educator of the Year. In September, 1998 Marc succumbed to his two-year battle with ALS (Lou Gehrig’s Disease) (additional biographic information is being sought)
