These awards are made by IDSA's Executive Committee to individuals whose involvement in and support of design has made him or her a special friend of the profession and major contributor to its long-term welfare and importance.
Honorary IDSA Membership is awarded by a three-quarters majority vote of the Board of Directors to any person whose relationship to, involvement with, or special efforts on behalf of the design profession merit the recognition and gratitude of the Society.
In 1929 Fuller displayed his work at the Marshall Field department store in Chicago, where public relations expert Waldo Warren created the term "Dymaxion" for Fuller's house and car. "Dymaxion" was coined from the words dynamic, maximum and tension.
