This year is unfolding at a rapid pace. We successfully closed our second year of growth in 2011, and we continue to stabilize and create operations that are more efficient. This is great news for the Society, as we need revenue to improve programs and add additional benefits for members.
IDSA is still making solid progress towards a full recovery; however, we have experienced challenges along the road to a place of greater relevance for the profession this quarter.
Q3 is a tale of two very different contrasting results. Our programs are delivering great results but our finances are under pressure as are many other businesses at this point in the economy.
Last year IDSA had the strongest year of results we’ve had in the past 10 years. The Society ended 2010 with all of our key performance indicators pointing up in a positive direction indicating a strong recovery from 2009. That is good news and benefits you, as a member, and the design profession. Now we need to repeat and improve that performance every year!
I recently heard a well-known economist describe the state of the economy as being in a “fragile state of stability.” I suppose it takes a Ph.D. to quote the obvious! Arguably and statistically-speaking the recession may be over, but challenges remain. IDSA is emerging from the economic downturn in good shape … at last.
