Breakout Title:
The Future of Product Design in a Connected World
MAX BURTON, IDSA

The pace of development in society and technology is growing exponentially. We have unlimited connection to content, information and our social networks. As industrial designers, we’ve witnessed and participated in this massive change, where people live in a world of radically new experiences, both virtual and real. In this new paradigm, products are no longer single function tools that stand alone, but exist within networks, communities, systems and designed experiences. This creates new opportunities for designers to engage with not only the objects themselves, but also the moments and spaces between objects. The new medium for industrial designers is time and space. So, the big question for industrial designers today is: What is the meaning and purpose for industrial design in a digitally connected world?
