TIM FLETCHER, FIDSA

Tim Fletcher is the business development manager for Daedalus in Pittsburgh. Previously he taught industrial design and design thinking at Hong Kong Polytechnic University. His background in design and new product development spans both large and small corporations as well as consulting. Before teaching, he worked in the consumer and commercial electronics, infant products and sporting goods industries. He holds 14 design patents and 4 utility patents in the US, Europe and Australia. Since 1989, Fletcher has been an active member of the Industrial Designers Society of America serving as Chapter VP, Southern District VP and Carolina Chapter Chair. He received his bachelor of environmental design in industrial design from North Carolina State University in 1989 and his master’s in design (Advanced Strategies) from The Hong Kong Polytechnic University in 2008.

STEVEN MEISTER

Steve Meister has been involved in new product development for over 30 years. His design, leadership and business development experience comes from a diverse range of products for category-leading brands like Cuisinart, Plantronics, Rigid and Bard Medical. As a principal and president of Big Bang, an Atlanta-based product discovery and implementation firm, he has been instrumental in the definition of new product development strategies, end-user research, moderation of idea farming events and the alignment of designers and engineers with client challenges. Meister received his bachelor’s in industrial design from Michigan State University and has served as guest lecturer and design juror at Georgia Institute of Technology, Auburn University and Michigan State University. He is a board member and current president of the Georgia chapter of the Product Development & Management Association (PDMA).

ROBERT MOSER, IDSA
Innovation Manager
Chrysler Automotive Group

Innovation is in the Moser blood. The Moser family is responsible for the oil filter, the pressure gauge and the terms horsepower and watt. Robert Moser began his own career in innovation in 2006 when he graduated from the College for Creative Studies with a bachelor’s degree in industrial design and graphic design. For the next six years, he worked for product development consulting firm Mixer Design Group in Austin, TX, first as a design associate and later as a design lead. He helped clients, such as Dell, Hewlett Packard and 3M improve their products and find greater value for their customers. In 2011, he graduated from the University of Texas at Austin's McCombs School of Business with a master's in business administration. Later that year, he moved back home to Detroit, MI to work at Chrysler Automotive Group. At Chrysler, he is an innovation manager using modern tools and creative processes to create innovative features for the company's A and B segment vehicles, such as the Fiat 500.

THOMAS PAREL

Thomas Parel is a senior industrial designer for Techtronic Industries North America where he creates emotionally charged product designs. He engages in strategic design and visual brand language development for brands like Ridgid power-tools, Ryobi and Stok grills, among others. He received his bachelor’s in industrial design from The Ohio University.

Local Motors

John “Jay” Rogers is president, CEO and co-founder of Local Motors, a next-generation car company that is changing the way cars are designed, built and owned. Local Motors is the first automotive co-creation community, and the first company to produce an open source vehicle, the Rally Fighter. In 2011, Local Motors facilitated the co-creation of a military vehicle for DARPA called the XC2V.

The automotive industry is in Roger’s blood; his grandfather owned the legendary Indian Motorcycle Co. He grew up loving cars and developed Local Motors by way of Princeton University, US Marine Corps and the Harvard Business School.

Jeff Smith is a passionate industrial designer with almost 20 years in the industry. Currently, he is the design director at Reflex Design Inc. A diverse range of clients gives him the opportunity to work on a good cross section of consumer products and markets. Reflex projects cover concept development all the way through Solidworks modeling and preparing projects for production. A strong supporter of design education, Smith was also an adjunct faculty member at The Art Institute of Fort Lauderdale for eight years. At this time, he is working to host workshops at ID programs around the US. He has hosted events and workshops at Virginia Tech, RIT and Georgia Tech.

MATHIEU TURPAULT, IDSA

As director of design, Mathieu Turpault leads a team of accomplished multidisciplinary designers working across a variety of projects and industries. Recent Bresslergroup projects include the MDEA award-winning Bactec FX for BD, several products for Black & Decker and for VingCard Elsafe. He has won numerous awards including IDEAs, MDEA & ID among others. Turpault is a graduate of the Superior School of Industrial Design of Paris (ESDI). A native of Paris, Mathieu manages client relationships across states, countries and continents.

Florian Vollmer is an industrial designer, teacher and principal at Info Retail, a strategy and design agency, where he helps international companies transform customer experiences. He specializes in creating brand experiences in the context of service design. The alignment and design of all brand touch points serve to create more useful, profitable, efficient and effective experiences in a customer’s journey. Vollmer teaches graduate-level courses in service design and organizational activation at the Georgia Institute of Technology.
