Keynote Title:
Co-creating with Humanity: The Design of Open Systems
MARGARET GOULD STEWART

Brenda Laurel once said, "A design isn’t finished until somebody is using it.” Many of the most transformative products of the Internet have been open systems that allow end users to determine why and how they are used. YouTube, Twitter, Etsy and others serve as powerful containers for global human expression and creativity. As a result, they have been applied to contexts never imagined by their inventors. So how should designers approach the development of these kinds of product experiences? What special opportunities and challenges arise? Margaret Gould Stewart, director of user experience for YouTube and Google TV will discuss her experiences and lessons learned from 15 years of leading design for some of the world's leading technology products.
